Concert Review: Gorgon City Create A Machinated Heaven For BEMF

Kingdom: talk about a perfect stage title for a set and a tour, especially the one Gorgon City gave during their Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival (BEMF) show. As “Welcome to Gorgon City” blasted through a massive warehouse, a group of Millennial realized under shiny, ruby lighting that we were no longer in “Kansas”.
Gorgon City – Smile ft. Elderbrook

Gorgon City’s set played like a machinated Heaven; every rhythm was an imprint of a cloud, a every synth was a compressed, angel wing, and the feeling you got from hearing it all was pure God. There are moments in your life when you known that you are happy, and you try to absorb the feeling for all that it is so you remember it for next time. Welp! Gorgon City made everyone incredibly happy. Each song flowed into the other to truly fulfill the “city” aspect of their name. While most DJ’s creates mixes, they want to create a world. As black and white snakes and shapes tussle behind them, in image, the duo mix their set like a pair of architects; each relishing the crowds cheers and hand waves. Both took turns between focusing on their mix-table as if their eyes were lasers zapping every electro-beat into the crowd, and simply enjoying themselves as if they were one of its members. Honestly, everyone raised their arms like they were in the sun-roof of a car; laughing with champagne and wind blowing through their hair. For a brief moment, life felt invincible, and it was through the exhilaration Gorgon City melded into their music as if beats were made of metal.
Gorgon City – Primal Call (Official Audio)

There is something metallic to Gorgon City’s sound, which is why I call it a machinated Heaven. You can tell there is an industrial under-current to their music that played excellently with the warehouse atmosphere. That sonic vibration caused people to release their inner “fierce”, and dance around like they are a bad-ass looking to run the music-underworld that is Gorgon City.
