This is an action thriller about a Florida bounty hunter called Lori, her partner JT and their daughter Dakota. While JT is in prison, Lori is trying to keep her daughter safe and healthy, so she sends Dakota off to summer camp and takes on a dangerous mission and finds herself in a lot more trouble than anticipated. All she has to do is hunt down on on-the-run felon and JT will walk free from prison and escape the death penalty, simple as that!. So Lori is forced to travel across state, team up with another bounty hunter who does not work to her methods, and put herself under more pressure and in more danger. So, the scene is set for a really tense, fast-paced thriller featuring a feisty woman trying to save her man and keep her daughter safe and tackle all kinds of dangers along the way.

I found the story to be a well written suspenseful thriller and the action was relentless and the fast pace was kept up right the way through the book to the very last page. However, there were times when the story became quite confusing for me and I lost my way a couple of times and needed to re-read several chapters to catch up and understand what was going on. The character of Lori was well described and expertly researched and I had a clear picture in my mind of her as a bounty hunter, however, there were times I found myself tutting and rolling my eyes and shouting “You don’t go into situations like that alone when you have a daughter!” – sorry maternal instinct too strong in me to be as reckless as Lori obviously is.

Unfortunately, I struggled with this book, probably for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I had not read the first book by Steph Broadribb featuring Lori Anderson and so some of the events alluded to from the first book Deep Down Dead did not at first make much sense to me. (I have since seen another review which said the same, so maybe these books should be read in order for future reference). Also as I was reading it on Kindle rather than an actual book, there were times when I would have liked to refresh my memory from the back page blurb or from a few pages/chapters earlier, and this was difficult without having the book in front of you.

However, that said, it is a great book for those who love the first book Deep Down Dead and are looking for another fast-paced thriller about a feisty woman who will do anything to save her family.
