2020 College Football Top Ten – Unexpected Visitors

So much for a normal college football season. We have some usual suspects in the top ten but we also have some new party crashers making their first appearances. Teams are not only hungry but looking to make a name for themselves on the come up. Here’s a look at the new Top Ten:

 

1) Clemson Tigers (4-0) defeated #7 Miami Hurricanes 42-17

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence was steady, going 29-41 for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Travis Etienne had 149 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The defense smothered the Hurricane’s offense, holding them to 210 total yards and forced three turnovers.

2) Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0) defeated Ole Miss Rebels 63-48

Quarterback Mac Jones was sensational, going 28-32 for 417 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Najee Harris gashed the Rebels defense for 206 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Wide receivers DeVonta Smith (164 receiving yards/one touchdown) and Jaylen Waddle (120 receiving yards) were too much for Ole Miss to handle. The defense was bad, giving up over 600 yards in total offense.

Next game- vs. #3 Georgia Bulldogs

 

3) Georgia Bulldogs (3-0) defeated #9 Tennessee Volunteers 44-21

Quarterback Stetson Bennett managed the game, going 16-27 for 238 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Kearis Jackson had 91 receiving yards and a touchdown. After a shaky first half, the defense settled down in the second half to shut out the Volunteer’s offense and forced three turnovers.

4)  Ohio State Buckeyes (0-0) Idle

Next game- vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers

 

5) Notre Dame Fighting Irish (3-0) defeated Florida State Seminoles 42-26

Quarterback Ian Book was pedestrian, going 16-25 for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Running backs Kyren Williams (185 rushing yards/two touchdowns) and Chris Tyree (103 rushing yards/one touchdown) led the ground attack. Wide receiver Javon McKinley had 107 receiving yards. The defense did its job, containing the Seminole’s offense.

6) Cincinnati Bearcats (3-0) Idle

Next game- at Tulsa Golden Hurricanes

 

7) North Carolina Tarheels (3-0) defeated #20 Virginia Tech Hokies 56-45

Quarterback Sam Howell was efficient, going 18-23 for 257 yards and three touchdowns. Running backs Michael Carter (214 rushing yards/two touchdowns) and Javonte Williams (169 rushing yards/two touchdowns) ran wild against the Hokies’ defense. The defense held on in the second half and got the stops needed to secure the win.

8)  Southern Methodist Mustangs (4-0) Idle

9) Oklahoma State Cowboys (3-0) Idle

10)  Brigham Young Cougars (4-0) defeated Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners 27-20

Quarterback Zach Wilson was excellent, going 22-30 for 292 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Tyler Allgeier ran for 116 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Dax Milne had 102 receiving yards. The defense shut down the Roadrunners rushing attack and contained the passing game.
