Job Description
Climate Jobs NY is a new and growing coalition of labor unions united to combat climate change and reverse inequality. CJNY is educating fellow workers, building alliances, and advocating for policy solutions – demonstrating that we do not have to choose between a healthy planet and good jobs. The Climate Jobs NY ten-point plan is outlined in a new report by the Worker Institute at Cornell University’s ILR School, “Reversing Inequality, Combatting Climate Change: A Climate Jobs Program for New York State.” In June, the campaign announced a partnership with partnership with Governor Cuomo and New York State to expand energy efficiency and renewable investments.
Climate Jobs NY is hiring a Director to lead campaign activities, communicate campaign vision and policy proposals, coordinate the Executive Committee membership, and fundraise.
Responsibilities
The Director will have the following duties:
- Facilitate development of campaign strategy with staff and Executive Committee members.
- Drive implementation of a wide range of campaign activities, including public events, political advocacy, press relations, digital communications, strategic research, and policy development.
- Communicate campaign vision and priorities alongside Executive Committee members with policymakers, press, and other issue stakeholders.
- Work with Executive Committee build new partnerships and foster wide range of alliances around common issues.
- Cultivate prospective donors, write fundraising proposals, and secure new contributions.
- Oversee finances, accounting, legal compliance, and implementation of other internal organizational policies in collaboration with retained legal and accounting firms.
Qualifications
We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:
- At least 5 years of work experience in labor, organizing, and issue campaigns, preferable fifteen years or more.
- A demonstrated commitment to labor, economic justice, racial & gender equity, climate sustainability, and to empowering working people.
- Experience working with and building alliances with community, environmental, climate justice, and business organizations.
- Experience with a wide range of campaign approaches, with a demonstrated experience with issue campaigns, legislative campaigns, and electoral politics.
- Ability to think creatively and strategically about the broad goals of the Climate Jobs NY while remaining focused on the detail-oriented work and follow-through required by the position.
- Strong analytic and communications skills, ability to write clearly and succinctly under time pressure and to make well organized verbal presentations.
- First rate management skills, with a proven ability to work with diverse, advanced teams of organizing, policy, and other staff.
- Travel and overtime required.
