Writer to spineless Congressmen: wear your NRA caps to work

To the publisher:

Another record setting slaughter of fellow citizens. Another sanctimonious slew of “thoughts and prayers” by spineless Congressmen who should wear their NRA caps to work. Their only thoughts should be to prevent future mass slaughter by carefully restricting the sale of these instruments of death. Another “this is not the proper time to discuss sensible gun control” by leaders.

Thoughts and prayers solve nothing and help no one. We are numbed by the daily carnage and are offered asinine platitudes such as “it’s the price of freedom.”  Would O’Reilly feel the same if his own family had been the victims in Las Vegas? Fully automatic AR15’s and AK47’s are not hunting weapons. They are designed to kill and maim human beings as expeditiously as possible.

All politicians who cower to the demands of the gun lobby will never be able to wash away the blood on their hands. I am sure that the dead and wounded in Vegas would take comfort in the fact that the shooter was not a foreign terrorist and that he had bought all of his weapons legally.

Various states have elected politicians who have actually succeeded in passing laws to allow guns on university campuses. Private colleges are of course exempted. They have passed laws that allow mentally ill people to purchase guns at will. Not too long ago, I was astonished to learn that silencers can now be used on your deer rifles to hunt deer. Talk about a gift to poachers at night. They are currently considering allowing the easy access to silencers for anyone who has no criminal record.

I would remind everyone that the Vegas shooter, as well as the majority of the mass murderers for the past fifty years in this country had absolutely no record of any kind before their horrendous crime sprees. I am certain that our founding fathers in 1789, in drawing up the Second Amendment to maintain a well-regulated militia, could have never foreseen the kind of weapons in the hands of millions of Americans today. And so it goes.

Sincerely,

David Almaraz

  1. The only person who is responsible for any crime is the person who did the crime. It goes against our countries you foundation and way of life. To say others who had no part in the crime are just as guilty and have blood on their hands is like saying everyone is responsible for homelessness, failure to cure cancer and other diseases becuase we didn’t fund them. So where is the responsibility in poverty and drug addiction. What have you done what are you doing to fix things to make them better? The truth is only a few take on the things to make them better, most want others to do it for them. We can’t and shouldn’t just point fingers becuase it is easier to just past the blame. The doer is to blame no one else unless he also took direct part in it. To even try and make this a political thing when in fact it is simply and act of evil a crime under our laws is plain wrong. May the Lord Bless the fallen and there families.
