What I’m Doing Now: Recapping Our Staycation Water Park Visit, And Tips!

It’s officially summer, so I’m jumping in this week with an exciting, What I’m Doing Now summer post. As life is returning to somewhat normalcy, we are back to planning some summer fun, in addition to what we’ve already been doing.

Last week, while on our staycation, we mostly spent time around the house, but we did get out to the water park. So, I wanted to catch you up on how we planned the day, scheduled lunch, and some of the fun things that we took with us. Also, since it is Amazon Prime Day, I am including affiliate links.

Anywho, let’s jump into all of the details.

To stay within our staycation budget, we headed to a nearby water park 30 minutes away. Gas and admission into the park was about $60 for three of us. I didn’t expect the waterpark to be that expensive for admission. So, be sure that you check websites prior to going, of course.

Parking and Admission

Parking was free since it’s a local water park located inside of a park. Once we were parked, we headed in. There are a few things to keep in mind upon entering. Be mindful of what you carry in your bag (no glass) and also have a face mask available in case you need to enter a building to get to the pool area.

Several poolside patio chairs were available to relax on, in which we did. However, I would caution you to bring a towel in case you are concerned about COVID or bring your own travel chairs.

Add Fun & Create Memories to Your Day with Toy Cameras

We spent about two hours in the water park, playing in the pool using a variety of toy cameras to make the day even more fun. I used a Fuji waterproof camera and the Split Cam. The Split Cam is a rare novelty camera that uses 35 mm film and blends your images.

This is my second time using the Fuji Disposable Waterproof Camera. I bought one a few years back and my son and I had such a fun time with it. You can check out the review here, FujiFilm Quick Snap Waterproof Disposable Camera Review.

It was actually one of my most popular posts for years! People wanted to know if the camera worked and yes, it does. You can find these cameras online at Amazon or at Walmart. The other drawback is that nowadays, developing costs more than it used to and it takes a while for your photos to come back. But, the outcome is definitely worth it.

Aside from this camera, I recently found out that Kodak has one as well called the New Kodak Weekend Underwater Disposable Camera Excellent Performance. It’s more expensive, but I’m willing to also give this one a try this summer since we will be at the pool most of the summer. I’ll buy it when we are done with the other and do a review on it, so that you know what our experience is.

Anyway, both cameras were a lot of fun. I can’t wait to create their summer albums

Pack a Lunch and Save Money

When it was time for lunch, we headed to the car to grab our cooler.  We took the same cooler that we took to the Indy 500 that I purchased off of Amazon. There was just enough space to keep our water, Kool Aid packs, sandwiches, fruit, and chips inside.

I also brought with us a disposable tablecloth for the picnic bench, some sanitizer, napkins, etc. Being prepared and having enough of what we needed was important. Be sure that you have enough for everyone.

Once we were done eating, we headed right back into the water park for another few hours before heading some.

When choosing to go to a water park, be sure that there is enough to do for everyone. What I loved about the water park that we went to is that the pool depth was five feet maximum – which means I didn’t have to worry about either of my boys being in water that was too deep for them, specifically my 10 year year old, as he is just learning how to swim.

Don’t forget to wear your sunscreen and take a few extra dry towels for the car.

Final Thoughts

Well there you have it! A quick recap of our water park visit while on staycation along with a few water park tips. I hope this inspires you to get out and have some fun at the pool sometime soon! Just make sure that you arrive early to get a good spot!

In the meantime, I’ll be getting the camera developed so that I can share the quality of those photos.
