To be anointed for an assignment is to be chosen for it’s successful completion. Success, in this context, is defined as the progressive realization of a worthy ideal. Once chosen, the posture of your heart determines your zeal in pursuit of the assignment.
Do you have a master’s or servant’s attitude? Do you tackle the assignment with vanity or humility? For your glory or others? Are you consumed by getting or giving the credit?
Something I’ve learned is when you align your quest for doing work that really matters with God’s spirit, he will anoint you. In other words, when you make doing meaningful work for his glory the assignment, he’s going to equip you and empower you.
Here’s what it means to be anointed and empowered by God’s spirit:
- You can count on it. It may look impossible, but he will make it possible.
- Difficult tasks become easier. You don’t have to do it all yourself.
- You can handle the ebbs and flows of life with a levelheadedness and confidence.
- You will feel compelled to help others. You’ll understand life is not a zero-sum game.
- You’ll experience joy 24/7. What we place our trust in becomes the rudder that guides our emotions. It turns out, that you can feel any emotion at any time about any event. But most of us miss the opportunity to influence our emotions because we believe they are caused by the actions of others. By placing your trust in God, your eyes will be opened to see the incredible work he is doing in you through any and every circumstance.
Anointed = Empowered.
Since you were a child, you’ve dreamed about “doing what you love, what you’re passionate about”. You see yourself working in a Utopian world where work doesn’t even feel like work, you are good at it, you enjoy doing it moment to moment, day after day, year after year, and you feel successful, valued and loved.
This is my 100th consecutive weekly story at MindWolves, something that seemed impossible to me almost two years ago. A funny thing happened along the way, it became fun and easy.
When I write, time flies. As I build my craft, I realize God is using my writing as a way to help me do work that matters. It’s one of the threads woven throughout the fabric of every aspect of my life as a dad, an insurance professional, a school board director, as a member of my church and the pack leader at MindWolves.
