Bad Times Poster, El Royale

Before its highly anticipated release date, 20th Century Fox has released eight new character posters, one of them featuring Dakota Johnson, in Bad Times at the El Royale. Just about anyone in the star-studded cast is playing a shady persona in writer/director Drew Goddard’s crime thriller.

7 strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at a run-down hotel in Lake Tahoe in 1960s California. Over the course of a fateful night, they all get one last shot at redemption — before everything goes horribly wrong.

Here are reasons we love the official trailer of Bad Times at the El Royale:

5) Emily Summerspring!

As we previously mentioned, Johnson joined the cast as the criminal Emily Summerspring. The Suspiria actress has a femme fatale-ish vibe going for her as she lights up a cigarette. We don’t know why Emily (Johnson) has someone tied up in her hotel room. We don’t even know how Summerspring has been taken hostage in a later scene!

4) Her Own Poster!

According to Collider, The Fifty Shades Freed actress gets her own poster among the collection. Get to know Daniel Flynn (Jeff Bridges), Darlene Sweet (Cynthia Erivo), Billy Lee (Chris Hemsworth), and Laramie Sullivan (Jon Hamm). Though we don’t have a name for Nick Offerman’s character, he is the only one in the poster who’s clearly armed.

3) What Does It Mean!?!

In the Emily Summerspring (Johnson) poster, the red line that separates California and Nevada leads straight to the hotel. Keeping with the femme fatale theme, Emily is surrounded by fog on a dark night.

2) Sisters!?!

In the plot, Cailee Spaeny plays the impressionable Southern Girl. Spaeny’s character has an older sister, Emily (Dakota Johnson). So is Emily’s real last name, Summerspring? Or are they both using fake names?

1) The Cabin In The Woods!

Writer/director Drew Goddard turned the entire horror genre on its head with the mind-tripping The Cabin in the Woods. Who knew Goddard could make being lost in space so funny in The Martian! I think Goddard will do wonders taking on crime and film noir.

Bad Times at the El Royale arrives in theaters on October 12th, 2018.
