Vegas 8th in costs for New Year’s Eve

Visitors to Las Vegas this New Year’s Eve will be taking a hit to the wallet.

Las Vegas is the fourth most expensive city to ring in the 2016, based on average hotel costs on Dec. 31 and the nights around it, in the 50 largest U.S. cities, a study finds.

It’s topped only by NewYork City, Miami and New Orleans.

Travel-booking site Hipmunk analyzed both hotels and airfares for New Year’s Eve travel, to find the best (and worst) value destinations.

Some of the big takeaways on Vegas:

  • Las Vegas hotels average $242 a night around the Dec. 31 celebration.
  • Airfares to Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve average $507, making it the country’s eight most expensive destination.
  • Visitors to New York City are paying $348 average per night for a hotel over New Year’s, the nation’s highest price. That’s about 50% more than an NYC hotel cost on average in 2015 ($237); Miami comes in at $310, almost twice as much as people paid to stay there on an average 2015 night ($160).
  • Comparatively, Oklahoma City is setting visitors back just $50 bucks a night, the cheapest average hotel rate in the country.
