Guyanese all-rounder, Sherfane Rutherford, has signed with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL),  which is set to resume September 19 in the United Arab Emirates.

Rutherford comes as a replacement for Englishman Johnny Bairstow, and it will be his third IPL franchise after stints with Dehli Capitals and defending champions, Mumbai Indians.

News Room Sport  spoke to the 23-year-old after the news broke and he stated, “it is always good to get an opportunity; I have been working hard and with hard work, there is some sort of reward, so for me, it is great heading to a new franchise.”

The dashing left-hander, who has shown great composure in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League for St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, said he will look to build on the previous IPL experience and “give it his all” and in an attempt to make a significant impact.

Sunrisers is currently at the bottom of the eight-franchise table with just one win from seven matches.

Meanwhile, after seven innings in the CPL, Rutherford has scored 201 runs at an average of 40.20 and strike rate of 136.73.

However, he was not included in the West Indies World T20 squad, or on the reserve list, as Lead Selector, Roger Harper explained Rutherford not reaching the required minimum fitness stand (40 on the Yo-Yo test) was the reason for the exclusion.

Rutheford last represented the West Indies in January 2020, but Harper in a recent press briefing could not state when or if the player was tested.
