Police probing death of Money Changer

Police are investigating the death of a popular money changer who was murdered after he refused to hand over his cash to an armed bandit.

Forty-seven-year-old Shawn Nurse, commonly known as ‘Fabulous’, was shot dead at about 10:00hrs on Sunday, at the corners of America Street and the Avenue of the Republic.

According to a police statement, Nurse was sitting in a chair plying his trade when the armed perpetrator approached him from a northern direction with the weapon drawn and demanded that he hand over his money.

A resistance was put up and the perpetrator discharged a round hitting Nurse to his head, resulting in his demise.

The perpetrator then escaped on foot north on Avenue of the Republic then south into Charlotte.

“Ranks from the scene of crime unit processed the area and body; and a single gunshot wound was seen to the left cheek just below the eye of the decease and a 9mm spent shell was recovered,” police said.

Police said the suspect was clad in a red hoodie and a pair of brown short pants; an investigation has been launched.
