Our Financial System Under Emefiele Was Rotten, Says Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has finally revealed why he suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

Tinubu made the disclosure during an interactive session with Nigerians resident in France and neighbouring European countries on the sidelines of the New Global Financing Pact Summit in the French capital, Paris.

The President said the nation’s financial system under the suspended Emefiele was rotten.

He noted that several Nigerians resident abroad were unable to send money to their relatives because of the multiple exchange rates, saying all that have become a thing of the past.

“Then the financial system was rotten. Few people making bags of our money and then you yourself, you stopped sending money home to our poor parents. Several windows… but that is gone now, is gone.

The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, has apologised to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for implicating him in the ongoing emirship dispute in the state.

Gwarzo had alleged that Ribadu played a role in the return of the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, to the state by providing him with private jets.

However, Ribadu denied the accusations and threatened legal action.

At a press conference at the Government House, Kano, on Monday, Gwarzo apologised to Ribadu, clarifying that the government was misinformed about his involvement in the ongoing crisis.

“The Office of the National Security Adviser has refuted the allegations and distanced themselves from what we have alleged.

“I have seen it, he has done it through three media, and today, I have seen the one about going to court.

“We have to acknowledge that we have been misled into believing that the NSA was behind the happenings along this line,” Gwarzo said.

He said they were shocked from the outset when Ribadu’s name was mentioned in the plot to impose the deposed emir.

“We apologise to the National Security Adviser, his person and office for any embarrassment and inconveniences this might have caused him

“We are human and can err at any time. On my behalf and the Governor of Kano State, I want to assure the NSA of our continued support and cooperation in discharging his duty as the NSA,” he stated.

Speaking at the mini-palace where he has been since his return to the state after his dethronement, he said justice would prevail.

The monarch vowed to accept whatever the law states, adding that Kano is an important state in Nigeria.

Speaking in Hausa, he said, “I call on the people to remain law-abiding while awaiting outcome of the legal process in this tussle.

“We call on  the authority to do justice in this matter. Kano is a very influential state in Nigeria. Whatever affects Kano affects Nigeria. May peace reign in Kano. We pray for Allah to bless Kano with responsible and just leaders. Justice is the way to go on every issue. There will be justice. Nobody is above law. We will accept whatever the law says. I appreciate all the people who have shown concern.

“As I said, justice will take its course. We will keep on praying for peace in Kano State. May Allah the Almighty protect us.”

Soyinka Dismisses Obi As Unfit to Lead Nigeria

Published

By

Again, Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has taken a swipe at Mr Peter Obi, saying the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, is ‘’unfit” to rule Nigeria.

In a recent interview, Soyinka claimed that Obi encouraged his followers addressed as ‘Obidients’ to attack him and others with opposing views online in the build-up to the 2023 presidential election.

When asked what he thinks about the movement, he said;

“It has to do with education. I didn’t read all these (insults by Obidient Movement) but of course, some links were sent to me, especially when facts were ‘being manufactured’.

“When I read these things, I was disgusted. There’s no other word for it. I really was disgusted and I know that it was orchestrated.

“I know that there is a relay mechanism, which is triggered into action by those who control what we call the trolls of the Internet, and so my disgust and contempt. I just went about my business, you know, because nobody, anybody on this earth who thinks they can stop me telling the truth as I see it needs to have his or her head examined. It’s as elementary as that.

“But it is depressing to see those who wanted to be political leaders encouraging that kind of action, that kind of attitude in the youth. And my mind went to the expression, ‘They don’t know what they’re doing’. Those who sow the wind will reap the whirlwind.

“One of these days, they would be astonished, they would turn on them and teach them a lesson. And so, my attitude was very blasé and it is for me a sad phenomenon, especially for those who want to lead multi-textured (society)- different religions, different ethnic groups, different worldviews – who actually want to preside over such a group as one. It means that they have already declared themselves incompetent to lead such an entity.”

Speaking further, Soyinka added; “I hope for the sake of the nation that he doesn’t express interest in the next election because for me as a leader if there was any proof that he was unfit to lead that country, it’s in the conduct which he encouraged among his followers.”
