UNS — Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta hosted an open dialogue with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs (Kemenkomarves) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Wednesday (27/4/2022). The occasion took on the theme of ‘Strengthening and Partnership in Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM),’ and was attended directly by Budi Purwanto, the Head of Law Bureau for the Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs (Kemenkomarves).
Led and started by the Dean of FISIP UNS, Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Sc., the open dialogue was also attended by the Vice-Dean of Academic, Research, and Student Affairs of FISIP UNS, Dra. Prahastiwi Utari, M.Si, Ph.D., Vice-Dean for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs FISIP UNS, Dr. Kristina Setyowati, M.Sc., Head of Study Programs in FISIP UNS, as well as FISIP UNS faculty members. “The MBKM program is one of the manifestations of innovative programs that can provide many benefits. MBKM activities for students aligned with the Kemenkomarves’s strategy in developing government policies, not only from a Political Science aspect but also through the law, economics, and infrastructure, which provides many opportunities for UNS students,” said Prof. Ismi in her remarks.
The format of partnership to be implemented will support the strategic plan in the maritime and investment scope according to tasks and functions needed. This implementation process will then be conducted in an inclusive, innovative, meaningful, and impactful manner, including strategic cooperation transfer with 7 (seven) ministries. Budi Purwanto emphasized that the partnership carried out must adhere to and fulfill the existing principles by not misusing the political, law (juridical aspects), and security aspects and must be in accordance with the context of the joint agreement manuscript. As the partnership implementation, the Kemenkomarves will also receive students from FISIP UNS as policy analysts.
Dr. Asal Wahyuni Erlin Mulyadi, S.Sos., MPA., the Head of State Administration Science Study Program, FISIP UNS, said that this activity was a promising and comprehensive opportunity. “This activity is also related to the academic ambiance enhancement following our Study Program graduates’ profile to be public policy analysts, public administrators, bureaucrats, academics and researchers, as well as managers for fieldwork activities that are relevant to public issues in realizing public values,” she said.
In line with the Kemenkomarves program, Dr. Wahyuni also instigates several activities, including certified internships, that can be recognized according to available courses following the academic calendar. The proposed initiative includes practitioners session (expert lectures) that allow students to get a learning experience enrichment and exchange of expertise. This activity will be beneficial for students, lecturers, and academic support staff, as well as to strengthen lecturer research.
Meanwhile, the Communication Science Study Program also initiated several activities, including strengthening the capacity of Human Resources (HR) in public communication activities regarding programs or policies through various media (both conventional mass media and new media), collaboration in the creation or production of public communication content as one of the implementations of MBKM and students’ case/project-based learning, public perception research, and media content related to programs or policies from the Kemenkomarves. The request to implement certified MBKM internship activities must be in accordance with the journalism, public relations, advertising, radio, and videography field as specialization courses in the Communication Science Study Program.
Concluding the open dialogue, Budi Purwanto said that the activities carried out in realizing MBKM must not only be centered on the maritime sovereignty aspect but also on resources, infrastructure, investment, tourism, and creative economy. “Students in their learning activities not only focus on theory but also on processes and practices. For example, when conveying and managing public policies, the preparation of organizations establishment, the preparation of SOPs, and the development of bureaucratic reforms. Similarly, the role of public communication management and two-way communication is crucial, especially in managing and coordinating public policies. This exchange embodies synergy, assistance, and interconnection among the best partners,” he explained. Humas UNS
