Often we are faced with news of friends, colleagues and loved being challenged by illness, disease and tragedy. It’s the strong who move forward, it’s also the kind, giving people of Buffalo who respond..
Receiving word of a remarkable woman as Margaret Roblin (Maggie), renowned community leader and philanthropist being diagnosed with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, has made our community stop and ask why? It has also created an opportunity for all of us honor her tremendous strength, grace and giving spirit. Late last week Maggie was honored by the City of Buffalo by being named an Honorary Commissioner to the Buffalo Arts Commission for her devotion to local cultural organizations.
As previous Chair of the Buffalo Arts Commission, Maggie oversaw a 200% increase in cultural funding to Buffalo’s 60 arts. She also was responsible for bringing the National Arts Program to City Hall employees and their families, and won the Award for Outstanding Commitment to the Preservation and Care of Collections in 2002 from Heritage Preservation and the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works. And now she, with her loving husband Daniel A. Roblin III, have established the Margaret Roblin Fund to help raise awareness of the disease and contributions for the ALS Therapy Development Institute.
