Spicy Splendor Cake

(25 minutes at 350F)

Ingredients

  • 3 c flour
  • 1/2 c butter, soft
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 c shortening, soft
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/4 c brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 c buttermilk (add 1 tsp vinegar to 2% milk)
  • 1/2 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp allspice

Directions

  1. Preheat Oven to 350
  2. Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and mix thoroughly. Add eggs one at time and mix until fluffy.
  3. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk in 4-5 portion beginning with flour and ending with flour.
  4. Turn into pans and bake.
  5. Frost with rum butter icing.
