Fire crews rescued a 13-year-old boy who was pinned to a Pacifica cliffside Saturday evening after a large boulder came loose and crushed his legs, officials said.

The boy, who was not identified, didn’t have life threatening injuries, but was a rushed to San Francisco General Hospital with fractures to both his legs, said North County Fire Authority spokesman Matt Lucett.

Crews were called out to the cliffs near the 800 block of Palmetto Avenue around 5 p.m. after getting reports of a trapped boy. Once on scene they found a boy who had been climbing on some rocks when a boulder broke loose and landed on his legs. It took about 90 minutes and specialized hydraulic equipment to free the child.

It was not immediately what caused the boulder to fall.
