The cover is a pretty ominous picture of Superboy on an operating table. There is a big metal like sharp object that is descending on him.
The caption on the cover reads “The Dissection of a Superboy!” I was immediately in and aboard for Tomasi’s story at this point. And it did not disappoint in the least.
The first few pages have the Gang in a spaceship traveling through space. The Gang is a miniature version of the villains of the DC Universe and they are hilarious. They have a mission and they want to take down the Super Sons!
But Damian and Superboy have problems of their own! They have run into adult versions of themselves! It’s a funny scene, particularly when Jon looks at them up and down and says “Jeez, getting old sucks, huh?” I laughed out loud and thought it was particularly clever on Tomasi’s part to get this storyline going.
From there, the Super Sons decide to team up with their adult counterparts as it were. It’s a fun and interesting concept and it gives us some high entertainment! The miracle planet they are on makes this all happen. But is this a good planet to be on? This leads to some incredibly fun moments. The scene where the Sons find out what it’s like to be a parent is a scream.
Tomasi is a great, solid writer. He keeps the story going and this is one of his better issues. The art by Barberi works well with the words and keeps things visually exciting. This is an enjoyable book from cover to cover.
