Capello insists Milan are a Scudetto contender as he praises ‘insatiable’ Ibrahimovic

Former AC Milan boss Fabio Capello believes that the Rossoneri are one of a few teams fighting for the Scudetto this season.

The Rossoneri are top of the table by two points heading into the international break having racked up 17 points from their opening seven games, winning five and drawing two to stretch their unbeaten run in Serie A to 19 games dating back to last season.

Capello is a man who knows about winning Scudetti, having done so as a player and as a coach, in particular guiding Milan to a league title without being defeated in 1991-92.

On Sunday evening at the San Paolo the Rossoneri will face Napoli and Capello – interviewed by Corriere dello Sport – believes it is a game between two title challengers.

“Matches like this help to discover oneself, to understand where it is possible to get to, what margins for improvement exist and possibly also on what limits to work. For me there are quite a few candidates for the role of champion of Italy, including Napoli and Milan,” he said (via MilanLive).

At the age of 39 Zlatan Ibrahimovic is showing no signs of slowing down as he is the current top scorer in Serie A with eight goals, and Capello praised the Swede for his impact.

“I repeat that we are in the presence of an absolute champion. A football giant. I wanted him with me at Juventus, so you can imagine my esteem in the man and the player.

“Because if at thirty-nine you are still able to make a difference in this way, then you must unquestionably add human ones to your professional skills. Ibra is insatiable. And this nature also serves his companions, because it establishes a principle of emulation.”
