Paqueta: “Milan cannot be satisfied with fourth place, we must fight for titles”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan midfielder Lucas Paqueta has given a reflection on his time at the club so far in the programme ahead of Milan vs. Lazio.

Paqueta arrived at Milan back in January from Brazilian side Flamengo in a €35million deal and has found himself a consistent fixture in the starting XI for the most part.

Despite being here for just 10 months, Paqueta has already played under three different head coaches in Gennaro Gattuso, Marco Giampaolo and now Stefano Pioli.

The 22-year-old recently hit out at Giampaolo – who was sacked after just 111 days following a spell of four defeats in seven games – claiming that he felt ‘imprisoned’ under his system.

However, he is only looking ahead to the future, and MilanNews.it have transcribed his comments from the match programme.

“I like it here a lot, Milan is a quiet city. I live with my wife, my parents live near us. I love this city, I’m happy,” he said.

On food and free time, he added: “I’m a big fan of risotto. I often stay at home. I go out for dinner or for a walk in the city with my wife and my parents because it’s nice to have some free time, but I’m a professional and the work comes first.”

On his relationship with Pioli: “We speak very frankly. This makes the difference because it is important for a coach to tell you where and what you can improve, which is why I am very happy to work with him.

“I am improving as a player, I feel I can do better from game to game, I hope.

“We are in a difficult situation. We have won but we cannot just be satisfied with fourth place. Milan must aim to win, fight for the title, important trophies.

“Returning to the Champions League is our goal and we will do everything to make it.”
