The result might not have gone AC Milan’s way last night, but there was a brilliant moment before the game where Paolo Maldini spoke to the CBS Sports panel.
Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher were all part of the panel for the show and it would be fair to say that they were left a bit starstruck when speaking to the Milan technical director.
Henry said: “We played against each other in ’98. When I realised I was coming on – and playing on the right – I suddenly got scared because of what you represented, the defender that you were.
“For me, you epitomise what defending is about, and the human being is even better than the player if that can be possible. I just want to tell you that you used to scare me.”
Richards tried some Italian before saying: “I’m starstruck. You are the greatest, my friend! I used to love Thierry Henry, but now we have a bigger star.”
Carragher meanwhile spoke about what an honour it was to line up against him in the 2005 Istanbul final and also admitted he still has his match-worn shirt from the game.
🤷♂️ At least something good came from tonight
🙌 A brilliant interview with Maldini on @CBSSportsGolazo, where the panel were just happy he knew their names 😂

‘Even his eyes.. That blue is clear..’
These guys here are star struck and during the match there was some commentator who when camera was on Paolo started mocking him by counting the numbers of ucl finals and wc finals he has lost…
This is hilarious, they’re all fanboing.
