Repubblica: 124 countries and two million ticket requests – Milan-Inter a global derby

By Oliver Fisher -

The game between AC Milan and Inter sees two teams from the same city do battle, but realistically it has become a global sporting event.

As stated by La Repubblica (via SempreMilan.it), Milan against Inter is not only the Derby della Madonnina – the battle for the iconic statue at the top of the Duomo in the city centre – but it is also the ‘Universal derby’.

According to the calculations made by the Roman newspaper, 26 stadiums – that is 26 times the capacity of San Siro – would have been needed to accept all the requests for the purchase of tickets received by the two clubs, who both easily sold out in less than a day.

The match will be followed in 124 countries around the world, and it forced the two clubs to deal with two million ticket requests, showing just how much the derby is felt domestically but overseas too.
