What do you do when the people go home?
And what do you do when the show is all done?
I know what I’ll do in the alone of my time
But what will I do with the leftover wine?

–  Melanie Safka, ‘Leftover wine’

And so another Cannes show draws to a close. Friday here always has the feeling of ‘the morning after the night before’. Many visitors have shipped out already, some of the stands are already being dismantled, and those who are still here to do business have the distinctive weariness that only a week at a trade show can engender.

For TFWA it’s been a good week. The association knows how to run classy exhibitions and turns the most complex of tasks into a smooth and efficient process. The management, staff and Board deserve rich plaudits for this year’s event.

It’s been good to be back in Cannes after a year away. But now it’s time to head home. And to throw away that leftover wine.
