Functions of the National Universities Commission (NUC)

The core functions of the Commission are outlined below:

  • The commission is given the responsibility to grant approval for all academic programmes in operation in every Nigerian University
  • Grant approval for the establishment of all institutions of higher learning offering degree programmes in nay Nigerian University

  • Recruit and supervise item writers and moderators
  • Arrange for the trial-testing and moderation of items to be used in UTME examination.

Functions of the National Teachers Institute (NTI)

The institute is mandated by law to perform the following functions:

  1. Upgrade under-qualified and untrained teachers via training and workshops.
  2. Conduct post-graduate courses and examinations in education for graduate teachers.
  3. Provide what is called refresher and other upgrading courses as trainings for improvement for teachers.

Functions of National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)

NABTEB is responsible for the conduct of examinations which lead to the award of the following certificates:

  • National Business Certificate (NBC)
  • National Technical Certificate (NTC)
  • Advanced National Business Certificate (ANBC)
  •  Advanced National Technical Certificate (ANTC)

Other roles performed by the institute are:

The Council was established by Decree 31 of 1993 to perform the following functions

  • Determining the standards of knowledge and skills to be met and attained by those seeking to be registered teachers under Act CAP T3 of 2004
