Wike questioned why Senator Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP National Chairman, is making excuses for not upholding his duty to do the right thing while the former PDP BoT chairman is being pressured to leave.
He said, “You have taken presidential candidate, you have taken party chairman, you have also taken the D.G (director general) of the campaign. We are talking about party politics. Decisions are made by the presidential candidate, chairman of the party and the D.G of the campaign.
“They are telling you they told the chairman of the BOT to resign. So you know there is a problem. You said he should go and resign.
“You can put pressure on him to resign when his tenure hasn’t come to an end. But you cannot put pressure on the chairman to resign. You think at our level you will deceive us. You’ll tell us stories.”
Wike recalled how the Federal Government attempted to invade Rivers State in 2015 using the military, meddle with the elections, and even have them annulled, but was met with resistance.
According to the governor, he saw to it that the results of the senate elections in Rivers East, which produced Senator George Thompson Sekibo, and Rivers West, which produced Senator Betty Apiafi, were declared.
The governor stated that by the following week, the Rivers State PDP campaign team will be presented, and the strategy used for the campaign would be based on the unique characteristics of each local government.
Wike emphasised that all PDP candidates in the State will receive the support of Rivers citizens who were pleased with the work of his administration.
“We will take all. We are taking all because Rivers people are happy with what we have done in this state. we have not only provided infrastructure, we have also defended the interest of Rivers State,” he stated
