County Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado tenders letter of resignation

Maverick County Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado of Precinct 1, who was temporarily suspended from his County Commissioner post on February 11, 2013, by visiting State District Judge Dick Alcala, officially tendered his letter of resignation as County Commissioner to Maverick County Judge David Saucedo on Friday, March 1, 2013, effective immediately.
Maverick County Commissioners Court must accept and approve County Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado’s letter of resignation at their next meeting.
State District Judge Dick Alcala appointed Eagle Pass businessman, Javier Libson, as interim County Commissioner of Precinct 1 on February 11, 2013 after temporarily suspending County Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado as a result of his indictment by a federal grand jury and a petition of removal filed by the State of Texas via Maverick County Attorney Ricardo Ramos.
County Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado had been Precinct 1’s commissioner since 2005. Commissioner Maldonado stated the reason for his resignation is to concentrate and focus on his pending criminal legal matter. Maldonado thanked his loyal supporters and stated that it had been an honor to represent the residents of Precinct 1 and Commissioners Court since 2005.
Maldonado is scheduled for a rearraignment and docket call court hearing on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 before United States District Judge Alia Moses of the Western District of Texas, Del Rio Division, in Del Rio, Texas on his pending federal criminal indictment.
