Beer is certainly the currency of this festival, and it’s also one of the foundation so f human civilization. Time traveling drinkers Trisha and William recount the history of beer from the Mesopotamian’s lumpy porridge of a drink (that gave us the drinking straw) to the mediaeval monasteries where each monk received two gallons of beer a day to the modern mega corporation’s battle small craft brewers. Their story is interesting if fragmentary, the time traveling machine is erratic and the sound is muddied and occasionally hard to hear. But on the bright side, they encourage drinking, it’s even requires to keep the Goddess of Time Travel happy. “A Brief History of Beer” is an educational show, assuming you are coherent enough to retain facts. You may not have known about the Great Beer Flood of 1814 or that beer was originally flavored with Gruet, and aphrodisiac mix of herbs supplied by the Catholic Church. You’re going to be drink beer this week; you might as well know what’s in it and where it came from. And if you’re a beer snob, there’s more than a few facts here that you can use to your advantage.
