Jeremiah Freed

Slowburn

As Aerosmith recently found out with the dismal chart performance of their ’70s covers album Honkin• On Bobo, classic rock isn•t exactly in vogue right now. Jeremiah Freed should know that better than any band, after being dropped by Universal Records following the release of their debut album in 2002. That album had a heavy blues-rock influence, and Slowburn is no different.

Tunes like the emphatic opener “Ride On” and “Lost In Today” pay homage to the band•s influences, Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and it seems that despite commercial failure, Jeremiah Freed isn’t about to sell out and change their sound. Indeed, the band is extremely tight, and although the album•s thirteen songs begin to sound a little derivative, by the end of the closing track “Feed Me Well” they are a talented, groove-laden quartet. I can•t see a major league comeback for these guys any time soon, but their dogged determination to stick to their roots must be commended.
