e-News® | The NEWS Company… : DHAKA, Nov 27, 2014 -Raid Action Battalion (RAB) has prepared a database of 40,000 hardened criminals with their photographs, fingerprints, picture of eye’s pupil and detailed criminal activities.
State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, MP, inaugurated the database this morning at RAB headquarters at Uttara in the city. “RAB prepared the criminal database of 40,000 criminals. Names, addresses, professions, photographs, finger prints, picture of eyes, DNA, criminal records have been incorporated in the database,” Kamal said after inaugurating the database.
“Cybercrimes have been increasing day by day. The criminal database will help us to address such crimes,” he also said. A code number has been opened for a criminal and all data preserved in the database about the criminal will come out soon after the number entered.
RAB members in their effort to prepare the database, they collected information about the criminals detained for criminal cases after visiting 64 jails out of 67 (except three jails of Chittagong Hill Tracts). The criminals include top listed ones, militants and extremists. The catalog was emerged with the database of national identity cards with permission of the Home Ministry to ensure involvement of any person with criminal activities. It is underway to attach the database with Machine Readable Passport (MRP) database and in near future it will also emerge with BRTA driving license, digital registration which will help stopping increasing trends of cybercrimes.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Hassan Mahmud Khandker said, “RAB is a specialized unit of police and it has established to deal with special works. It has already achieved success in doing so.” “Today is a memorable day for RAB. It has been working with fame since its inception. The database has played a significant role in eliminating crimes from the country,” said Director General (DG) of RAB Mukhlesur Rahman.
