uly 2008 Kibera Olympic Boxing Club was founded in 1979 by young inspiring boxers living in Africa s largest slum. Since its inception the club has seen four of its boxers go on to compete in the Olympic games. The club keeps a rigorous schedule for training so to keep the young boxers active and not idle as Kibera slums can and has been known to lead young boxers into a life of crime, alcoholism and drugs. To date Kibera Olympic Boxing Club has received no financial assistance or sponsorship, and despite that fact they are the number one amateur boxing club in Nairobi, Kenya.Once a year the club has the chance to compete against other amateur boxing clubs around Nairobi and Kenya. The winners of such matches go on to compete against the Kenya Armed Forces which is the single best exposure a amateur hopeful could ask for and the best chance a young boxer could have at a life outside the slums.
