sky as the light fades

Day 252 Seeing good in a hate filled world

As the sky faded tonight there seemed to be a subtle collection of colours in the sky. Very faint but still bright enough for me to observe. The camera though is struggling to pick up these colours and it is even struggling to portray what we see clearly. It is hard to see colours in a dark sky, but God has designed us with awesome eyes.

Nature is so much more advanced that what we could possibly invent. The human eye has long been hailed as a miracle of design. All of nature is wondrous and God said at creation on each day that what he was created was good, and only on the sixth day after he had created us did he say that it was very good.

Doesn’t this make you feel very special that you were created by God and that when he created you He felt something special about doing so.

Genesis 1

The History of Creation

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was[a] on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

Then God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.

Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

11 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13 So the evening and the morning were the third day.

14 Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. 16 Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. 17 God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 So the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 Then God said, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.” 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all[b] the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. 31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

The creation account tells us that God saw the goodness, and at the end he saw all was very good. He blesses the animals, as he does with us. But we are special because we have been created in Gods image.

Through God’s inspiration we have come up with many, many wondrous things and inventions. But we are just a shadow of God’s glory as He is the only one who can create life. Life comes from life and not un-life, and no matter how much I read about astronomy, it fills me with awe for God’s creation and the fact that God gives us a special role to play within it.

A child asked today – if God reset the world because it was full of evil back then in Noah’s time, why doesn’t He re-set it now with all this hate around the world, particularly with isis separating the children of christian families, trying to get the children to convert to their evil and when they don’t they kill them.

My heart yearns for Jesus to come down and sort the mess that we have got this world into. Perhaps we are at the rapture and Jesus’ return is imminent. But many are turning to Christianity, and many are keeping their faith despite harrowing circumstances. Our prayers go out to these people.

But even with all this hate, God saw good, he saw Noah and his family. In a world whose population was many thousands perhaps, he saw a handful to save, and if he can save a handful of loyal followers, he can save all who turn to him today, but only through His Son. Jesus Christ our Lord. And what is more, that we have been commissioned to go out and shed this light of Jesus on others, by seeing good, and showing compassion.

It is easy for me to sit here saying these things when the true saints and martyrs are out there facing the devil, facing isis and their evil religion, for no matter how many times someone says this is not Islam, they shout louder that it is. The world leaders seem strangely quiet about admitting that this is a problem with Islam, in fact every time they do something, the world leaders seem to appear and tell us all it is not true Islam. Why are they defending and trying to re-justify these evil people. Evil must be tackled, but with love always. Love is stronger than evil. Jesus’ death and glorious resurrection proved that.

If you look for good in the world, you will see it and you will be strengthened because the light is good. Now is the time to share the light, see the good and bring many to Christ, through our actions of love.

Father, allow us to see good in the world, see very good in the world and bless all we meet and be the light for your Son Jesus Christ, through the inspiration of your Holy Spirit.

Amen
