life notes; flaws and all

a daily breath...

A thought du jour, my daily breath includes collected and conceived observations, questions of life, fortune cookie philosophies, reminders, messages of peace and simplicity, unsolicited advice, inspirations, quotes and words that got me thinking. They may get you thinking too . . .

by any other name

More obvious than DNA, presence
or personality: identity. Individually,
names are given out by someone else,
by family or memory. Titles awarded
before character is developed,
without our knowledge.

A voice we live with. Should you
call out, what will you hear? A name:
in the end, all we are left with. Goodbye.
What you remember and often forget.
Introduction requires random thought
of specific examples.

Fingerprint fact and interpretation, a
name, birth date, statistics, history always
living proof of every step taken, up until
now. Evidence you are all you believe in,
selfish presentation of self-image, under
circumstances that change along with us.

Do you represent what others might think?
How well do they know you? Would you
be any different under any other name?
Will that person remain the same as you
if it were true? Hello. Ask yourself.
It is a hard title to live up to.

friday

                 sunlight navigates its way

     between

               what was and what

            is still to come

     friday

           not just any day

               you find the freedom

       to notice

     transformation happening

     as it should

                       look up

will you see what you should

       or observe

               all you have neglected

Mondays are just young Fridays

Qualifying questions, remedial response.

Knowledge of situations often haunt.

What we know or have been told.

We tell ourselves we just don’t know.

Answers formed by thoughts untold.

Rumour and misinformation often sold.

Conspiracy theories tend to rule the day.

Bare truth and logic will get in the way.

I'm like a pencil;
sometimes sharp,
most days
well-rounded,
other times
dull or
occasionally
broken.
Still I write.

Our minds and our screens are flooded, daily, with information and images from known and unknown sources. Everybody wants to catch your eye, it is plain to see, yet many times the message is as flat as the screen in your hand.
You begin to question motives, manners, and the actual message (often 280 characters or less). It’s getting worse, really, as people or corporations are trying harder to get noticed in this sea of unrecognizability.
We are all looking for information or entertainment, and we click evermore frequently on the devices which have become the way we communicate in this digital age.
I am clicking more, but I know I have to question, more frequently, what I am finding in front of me.
  We all do.
I guess it’s about authenticity, as you try to go beyond what you see.
Look at all that is there; the flawless facade diverts attention from what is inside. Advertising is often this way (always has been), liking the sizzle over the steak or the icing instead of the cake; there is a focus on an image that can only be skin deep.
The body is buff, impeccably dressed, a smile full of teeth, the package presented in perfect condition, but the content that comes out of the mouth is far less than expected.
You begin to question what is really there.
  I’m looking for originality.
Honesty, even in its awkwardness, is always preferable. You should say what you mean, and mean what you say. How else can you expect to get through this day to day?
Seek the meaning in the words and celebrate those which mean something to you.
We are all looking for meaning.
I’m looking, now especially, for more clarity. I am looking to write all I can see, flaws and all.

At the bottom right of this page’s main screen there is a KEEP IN TOUCH section where you can add your email address to be more informed on mythosandmarginalia.com. Each Wednesday there is a major post, Mondays are a great start to the week, but other than the occasional cloud song, or in the event of something significant happening, I won’t clog up your inbox.
But I would like to connect, a little more deeply. Sign up, and see what happens.
