Disability Rights UK article, 23 February 2016: Supporting young people with chronic health conditions
Liz Sayce, Disability Rights UK CEO gave a presentation at a Work Foundation event launching their new report.
The report, Don’t stop me now: supporting young people with chronic conditions from education to employment calls for greater support in the transition from education to employment to be offered to young people, but particularly to those who face additional barriers such as chronic health conditions.
As ‘good work’ is often good for health, and many young people with chronic conditions can, and want to work, the paper sets out the case and offers recommendations to government for implementing a bolder and more ambitious approach to supporting transitions from education into employment.
Recommendations are made in four main areas:
- Careers Advice
- Vocational Education
- Work Experience
- Health-related initiatives.
