If you are a christian, you should be vehemently against abortion. Here’s why:

If you’re a Christian, abortion shouldn’t be a liberal or conservative issue, it should be an irrefutable issue we all agree is a great evil. Our Faith has to come first . . . It has to come before our politics, otherwise politics are an idol. This means we cannot side with a stance either political parties have made if that stance goes against the Bible. And the MOST EVIL political issue today is abortion. This is why every Christian, whether liberal or conservative, should be pro-life.

Why is abortion a great evil? Even an atheist should be able to recognize the value of the unborn with science and the basic concept that it’s wrong to take an innocent life, and therefore, conclude that abortion is evil. But for Christians, we should understand this at a much deeper level. When we become children of God, we learn to love what God loves and hate what He hates. God is the author of LIFE. Satan is the author of DEATH. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10) We as children of God must defend life, and stand against the spirit of death that is deceiving and destroying so many lives.

It doesn’t matter that the Bible never actually mentions the word “abortion”, to argue that it can’t be wrong. If you read your Bible, you will find many, many pro-life verses. Verses that recognize the value of life and life in the womb. The very fact that God recognizes the value of life in the womb, and also says not to murder, means that killing a life in the womb is murder. Period. It’s so simple, a child could come to this understanding without an adult telling them.

Because I am addressing this to Christians, my main source of evidence is in the Bible. Science is an important tool, but it is not the first source Christians should turn to. God’s word is the perfect, true and sound word. It only makes sense that it’s where we should find our answers first… Here are verses every Christian should read if they support and/or struggle with the issue of abortion:

 

Verses that show God values life in the womb:

“Truly children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is a reward” (Psalm 127:3)

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” (Psalm 139:13-16)

“You have been my guide since I was first formed . . . from my mother’s womb you are my God” (Psalm 22:10-11)
“God . . . from my mother’s womb had set me apart and called me through his grace” (St. Paul to the Galatians 1:15)

 

Verses that show an unborn baby is not a “clump of cells”:

“Behold, said he, thou art with child, and thou shalt bring forth a son: and thou shalt call his name Ismael, because the Lord hath heard thy affliction.” (Genesis 16:11) (The unborn baby is called a “child”)

“And Isaac besought the Lord for his wife, because she was barren: and he heard him, and made Rebecca to conceive. But the children struggled in her womb…” (Genesis 25:21-11) (Again “Children”)

“When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Luke 1:41) John the Baptist was the first to recognize Jesus while He was still in the womb. A “clump of cells” could never do that. And when Gabriel foretold John’s birth to Zechariah he said that “…he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother’s womb.” (Luke 1:15)

“As you do not know the way the spirit comes to the bones in the womb of a woman with child, so you do not know the work of God who makes everything.” (Ecclesiastes 11:5)

 

Verses that show how abortion is a great evil:

“They mingled with the nations (the KJV word is “Heathen”) and learned their works… They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, and they shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, desecrating the land with bloodshed” (Psalm 106:35,37-38)

“And Hazael said, “Why does my lord weep?” He answered, “Because I know the evil that you will do to the people of Israel. You will set on fire their fortresses, and you will kill their young men with the sword and dash in pieces their little ones and rip open their pregnant women.”” (2 Kings 8:12)

“You shall not murder.” (Exodus 20:13)

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live,” (Deuteronomy 30:19)

 

Verses about evil and how it is an abomination for us to defend evil:

He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord.” (Proverbs 17:15)

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)

“You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44)

“And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12)

 

Verses about protecting the helpless (and babies are the most helpless and innocent of all):

“Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?” (Proverbs 24:11-12)

“Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9)

 

Verses that show children are a blessing:

“And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, ‘Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me,’” (Matthew 18:2-5)

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.” (Psalm 127:3-5)

“Yet she will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith and love and holiness, with self-control.” (1 Timothy 2:15)

“Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.” (Isaiah 49:15)

 

I understand that there will be Christians who will read these verses and have to agree that abortion is a sin . . . but they will still believe it should be legal because “it should be a person’s choice to sin”. That logic FAILS.

If you believe someone should have the right to murder an unborn baby (even if you don’t personally agree with it), then you would have to believe they also have the right to murder a born baby . . . or anyone for that matter. The main purpose of having laws is to protect innocent lives. If we didn’t have laws so that people can’t murder, our country would be in utter chaos. No one has the “right to murder”. And the Bible says to “Rescue those who are being taken away to death…”. One of the most crucial ways for us to rescue unborn babies is to change the law so it wouldn’t be legal for them to be killed in first place!

I don’t believe it is my place to say someone is “not a Christian” because they support abortion, that is between them and God. But I can say without a doubt that as a Christian there is no justification to support abortion . . . Because abortion is something God hates.

If you believe that God permits abortion, maybe it is an idol you serve, because that is not the God of Christianity.
