ABSTRACT

Nigeria is a developing country and evidence on ground shows that majority of her citizens are poor. The World Bank Poverty Report of 2014, for instance, attest to this fact. Undoubtedly, these sceneries exert devastating consequences on the nation’s economic development and by extension, on her quest for self-reliance. The purpose of this article in the light of the foregoing was to highlight the crucial roles of entrepreneurship education as well as science and technology education as the alternative options which Nigeria could harness to fast-track her economic development and also achieve the desired self-reliance for overall national development. An opinion based work, the article reviewed literature relevant to the key concepts of the work and concludes that, Entrepreneurship, Science and Technology Education, which is a precondition for economic and self-reliance has been on decline as a result of neglect, poor funding, under staffing, among others. Hence the need for enhancement of the program to check these challenges in order to form a solid foundation for the economic development of the nation. It was thus suggested among other measures that; adequate funds be made available by government to acquire and equip laboratories/workshops, entrepreneurship, science and technology education should be made a core course with practical’s to enhance the teaching and learning of entrepreneurship, science and technology, etc. with this entrepreneurship, science and technology education will be a great step to Nigeria’s goal for development and self-reliance.
