Stephanie, 46, had been in a custody battle with her husband and former business partner Dr. Charles V. Nicolai. The couple were business partners in GODDESSY Organics. But the divorce had turned bad, with the New York Post reporting that the attorney for Dr. Nicolai had recently demanded Vincent's passport.

The doomed beauty — who was Miss November of 1992, and then made headlines in 2003 by declaring herself to be gay — had leaped with her son from a penthouse suite on the 25th floor of the Gotham Hotel in midtown Manhattan. They were found dead on a second-floor balcony around 8:15 a.m. on the morning of May 18.

Stephanie came out as a lesbian in a 2003 feature in She magazine — but later went on the talk show "The Lesbian Mafia" to say that she no longer had an interest in lesbians or bisexual women. She revealed that she was engaged to marry a man in 2009. That was five years after being named "Best Lesbian Sex Symbol" by the Village Voice.

Stephanie grew bitter over newspaper coverage of her sexuality, saying in 2015: "I'm not a 'lesbian married to a man.' That is libel, and they are asking to be sued." Dubbing herself "The Goddess of Wall Street," she'd also complained that "what the media often overlook are facts that I have dual bachelor degrees, am an author of over two dozen books, and a contributing writer about spirituality and empowerment."

Stephanie had been business partners with her husband in GODDESSY Organics — and the company was said to provide "products and services, inspired by their son, for the health and wellness of their family, as well as yours." Stephanie was also promoted as the creator of GODDESSY book publishing, along with other products that were "inspired by her portmanteau of 'goddess' and 'odyssey.'"
