The outage of the travel system compounds the case for the FAA nominee


US Senator John Hickenlooper intervened the collapse of a key FAA system Wednesday to argue that the Senate should confirm the stalled nomination of Denver International Airport CEO Phil Washington to head the federal agency.

“Air travel in America shouldn’t be grounded because of an outdated computer system,” the Colorado senator said in a statement, referring to the hour-long grounding of US flights after a safety and information system for pilots went down overnight. “Today’s chaos is just the latest in a series of disruptions to air travel.

“The FAA needs a permanent Senate-approved administrator who knows how to get things done.”

President Joe Biden appointed Washington as Administrator in July of the Federal Aviation Administration, a position that has been vacant since last March. but Washington has not received a hearingwith senators citing concerns about the longtime passage leader’s limited experience in aviation and a public corruption investigation from his time as manager of the LA Metro in California.
