Montie 3 Petition Presented To The President

akua-donkor
The petition calling for the release of the jailed Montie 3 has been presented to the Presidency by the petitioners, for the Commander-in-Chief to make his decision on whether to pardon the convicts.
The Montie 3 consists of Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu ‘Mugabe’ Maase – the show host and two panellists who made threats against Supreme Court justices during a program on the station – and were handed four month jail sentences for their troubles.
After they were jailed for contempt, a movement for their release sprung up, aimed at getting the President to exercise his powers of amnesty to release them. Prominent members of the ruling NDC, including Ministers of State, have all signed the petition which critics have described as aimed at undermining the concept of separation of powers.
On Tuesday morning, the lawyers for the three presented the petition to the Presidency, with Chief of Staff Julius Debrah acknowledging receipt.
The President has yet to make any public pronouncement on the petition.
