How do you turn one of these leaves into a butterfly?
Back in gradeschool, my busmates and I would pick leaves off the trees for playtime. We’d cut each leaf into a more defined butterfly shape and make them flutter with a flick of our wrist.
Ah, the little imaginative joys of being a kid!
Hi! I'm Toni Tiu,
and I've been blogging at
at Wifely Steps since 2003. This started as a blog to help newly weds adjust to married life. It has evolved into a home and parenting blog. I write about things close to my heart -- good eats, good reads, family, marriage, and the little things that make everyday happy.

July 19, 2006 at 5:04 am (18 years ago)Those are neat leaves! What sort of plant is it? (And you’re right, they make excellent butterflies.)
When I was a kid I used to grind up colored sandstone (easy to find in my area) and make “paints” with it. I felt very like a prehistoric artist as I painted on handy gray rocks (for added accuracy I usually painted things that I thought were prehistoric or native – art – styled!) The sandstone came in such pretty colors, too…bright deep reds and sunny golds…oh, the memories!

the only thing i can remember doing with leaves is with Malunggay leaves. I’d get one and place em on one front tooth and pretend I’m “bungi”….
