FG Approves New Polytechnic In Akwa Ibom, Operations To Commence In September

In recognition of governor Godswill Akpabio’s commitment to the development of education and infrastructure in Akwa Ibom state, the federal government  has approved the establishment of a federal polytechnic in the state.

The minister of education, Nyisom Wike, made this known in a letter stating that the federal government’s approval came following governor Godswill Akpabio-led administration’s commitment to the development of education and infrastructure in the state.

While thanking the federal government for this development, governor Akpabio announced that the institution will begin operations by September 2014 using the Independence High School as a temporary site.

Governor Akpabio in his remarks noted that the federal government has approved the sum of N1 billion for the  take-off fund of the project.

He stated that the temporal site will be at Ukana in Essien Udim Local Government Area, and announced the appointment of Professor Oluma Joseph as the Rector of the new institution.

Governor Akpabio stated the state government will begin the rehabilitation of existing infrastructure at Independent High School, Ukana as its contribution to the project.
