The Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park has lots of gorgeous views. I went on this hike by suggestion of one of the park rangers at the visitor center!

This was a pretty chill trail that gives you a great view of the Colorado River, Monument Basin, and La Sal Mountains.

The trail is easy to follow and wasn’t super heavily trafficked when I went (early afternoon in August). The park ranger definitely wasn’t lying about the beautiful views! I was looking for more solitude and didn’t want to deal with the crowds I’d likely find at Grandview, so this was perfect!

There isn’t much shade, so make sure you bring water, a hat, sunglasses, and wear SPF!

P.S. There’s no sign from the road for this particular trail, so if you start from the Island in the Sky Visitor Center, drive 6.25 miles south on the Main Island Road, turn left toward Grand View Point, and then drive another 5 miles past Buck Canyon Overlook to the Gooseberry Trailhead.

I’ve spent all my time in the Needles section of the park. So it’s nice to see the other side. Love that red rock.
