It’s My Birthday

… I’ll cry if I want to.

Oh boy, another birthday …

Karen could be excused for crying on her birthday, especially as it’s the first one since her husband got on a plane to the States and never came back. Then there’s the fact that her workmates were practically bribed to attend her birthday meal. But when a restaurant double booking leads to her sharing a table with single dad Elliot and his daughter, things start looking up.

As Karen gets to know Elliot she experiences feelings she thought she’d never have again. But is it enough? Or will the thing that destroyed Karen’s previous relationship also ruin things with Elliot?

My review:

This is a lovely, heartwarming, contemporary romance featuring a couple who meet when they accidentally end up sharing their celebratory birthday meal. Neither are looking for love but fate definitely intervenes with its on plans!

Discovering that colleagues attending her birthday celebrations had been bribed with the promise of a free meal is a wake up call for Karen. She knows she has to change her attitude despite how she’s feeling after her husband let her know he was never coming back as he’d found someone new whilst working in America. She’s had a fraught time in her marriage as they’d been unsuccessful in trying to start a family. When Elliot and his eighteen year old daughter join their party because of a double booking, they unexpectedly connect more than either dreamed possible. Dare she give new love a chance? Dare single Dad, Elliot, give himself a chance to know her, too? Will their dreams bring them together or, ultimately, tear them apart?

This is an endearing romance with great characters, each with their hopes and dreams. It is a story of second chances, opening up to love and listening to your heart but keeping your goals and dreams, too. The developing relationships between them all are explored realistically and it is easy to empathise with their different points of view. A lovely contemporary romance, I have no hesitation in highly recommending it to anyone who enjoys this genre.

I requested and was gifted a copy of this book and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.

I like the premise of this one. Terrible things happen to so many of us, the way we respond will shape the rest of our lives. Nice review Elaine.
