RENO, NV – AdventureCORPS, Inc., the masterminds behind the BADWATER® brand and series of world’s toughest events, will host the 33rd Anniversary Silver State 508, on September 17-19 (Saturday-Monday), 2016. Founded by John Marino in 1983, recognized as “The Toughest 48 hours in Sport” and also known as simply “The 508,” it is the world’s premier 48-hour ultra cycling race.
Silver State 508 is revered the world over for its epic mountain climbs, stark desert scenery, desolate roads, and its reputation as one of the toughest but most gratifying endurance challenges available, bar none. This race has been a fixture on the worldwide calendar of ultra sports for over three decades, and its race director, Chris Kostman, has helmed the race since 1990.
Solo, two-person relay, and four-person relay divisions are offered for men, women, and mixed, with sub-categories for “classic” bicycles, fixed gear bicycles, tandems, and recumbent bicycles, plus ten-year age groups for all divisions.
The 2016 race roster features 110 racers from 12 American states, plus Puerto Rico, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.
This 508-mile ultra cycling race starts in Reno, Nevada at the Atlantis Casino Resort and crosses the northern Nevada outback primarily on Hwy 50, “the loneliest highway in America,” returning to the Atlantis Casino Resort with a 48-hour time limit. Timing checkpoints are located in Silver Springs, Fallon, Austin, Middlegate Station, and Eureka. The event also passes through historic and iconic Virginia City.
