Town officials in Vail, CO are expected to lift the town’s outdoor mask mandate from April 19th, the day after Vail Mountain closes.

The mandate has been in place since November 2020 and requires that people outdoors cover their faces. As cases rose in Fall, threatening the ski season, the town council hastily voted in the mandate.

Other nearby resort towns, such as Breckenridge and Aspen, had had similar mandates since early summer.

Some residents and business owners are urging the council to lift the order. Colorado has been quick to roll out vaccines, with the most vulnerable people vaccinated and vaccines available to all over 16.

“The time is right. This is an opportunity for the town of Vail to take a leadership position.”

– local restaurant owner told Vail Daily

However, others are just as keen for the mandate to remain in place.

  1. That’s a weird pic for an article about wearing masks outside, instead of in the darkness in front of an ominous glow.
