Just before 2018 ended, it was disclosed that Guyanese Esuan Crandon was pipped for the Assistant Coach position of the West Indies senior men’s team.
The Guyana Jaguars Head Coach, although surprised at his appointment, was poised for the position, having reaped many successes with the local team. As such, he will now look to do the same for the West Indies side under the stewardship of new Head Coach Richard Pybus.
Two weeks later, the Patron, President and management of Crandon’s club in Berbice, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club (RHTY&SC), MS, has expressed their congratulations to Crandon on his selection as the Assistant Cricket Coach of the West Indies team.
“Esuan is another outstanding product of Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation personal development programme, which seeks to make sure that outstanding youths fulfil their potential leadership skills,” a statement from the club

Crandon joined the Sports Club in 1998 and was quickly identified as a leader of the future. His leadership of their Under-19, Second-Division and First-Division teams were done in a calm, dedicated and professional matter which resulted in numerous accomplishments on the cricket field. The success story of the Club is due to the foundation that Crandon and players like his brother Royston, Assad Fudadin, Renwick Batson, Khemraj Mahadeo, Delbert Hicks, Andre Percival laid for the younger generation to build on. At the tender age of 20, Crandon was engaging with youths at the Club’s Cricket Academy, conducting practice sessions and serving as a positive role model and mentor.
The management of the Club is confident that Crandon’s calm influence and outstanding coaching skills will serve as one of the main reasons for the restoration of West Indies cricket. “All of us at the Club wish him well and we recommit ourselves to making sure that more outstanding leaders emerge from our membership. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club strongly believes in allowing youths to excel once they show potential matched by dedication, honesty and hard work,” the Club’s statement said.
Looking to their future, the RHTY&SC noted that their 19-year-old Assistant Secretary/CEO Simon Naidu is a perfect example, as he has taken over the daily operations of the organisation while the Secretary fulfils his duties as President of the Berbice Cricket Board. Young leaders like Jonathan Rampersaud, Mahendra Gopilall, Shivnarine Ramnarine and Jeremy Sandia were also singled out for playing prominent roles in the administration of the Club.
Aside from this, the RHTY&SC sought to congratulate their members Assad Fudadin and Clinton Pestano on their performances so far in the CWI Four-Day First-Class Tournament and wished them even more successes for the remainder of the tournament.
