This week’s Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week is the compassionate, tattooed piece of artwork Monica Kay. In these photos by Shane Karns, you will see Pinup Pole Show model Monica Kay posing with a cherry red Ford Mustang at Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show and classic car cruise-in. Let’s learn some tips from Monica Kay on how models can set themselves and their photos up for success:
TONYA KAY: What got you into modeling?
MONICA KAY: I first modeled in college for photography students. All black and white artsy photos developed in darkrooms.
TONYA KAY: How has your modeling changed over the years?
MONICA KAY: For one thing, I am much more comfortable in front of a camera now. I used to be so nervous and self conscious in front of the lens, and now I am so at ease.
TONYA KAY: What does it take to make a beautiful photograph?
MONICA KAY: What works for me is to just do what feels natural. I think with most people, a person's natural smile makes a great photo. Another thing that makes a great photo is to make all of your body parts somewhat visible. For example, if your arm is completely behind you, in the photo you may appear to be missing an arm. Try to keep part of that arm visible by adjusting your ribs. Pointing the toes at every possible opportunity also kicks it up a notch. Breathing and keeping the heart elevated is also an easy thing a model can do to help create a beautiful picture.
TONYA KAY: What can our emerging-model fans do to set themselves up for success when working with a photographer?
MONICA KAY: I think a good idea would be to look at modelling pictures on Instagram and Pinterest. Practice the poses you like from the web in front of a mirror. You can even screengrab modelling poses on your cellphone and keep them nearby during your shoot, so if you forget anything you can just reference your screengrabs!
