The Balfour Declaration was a letter from the British government to the Palestinians for the establishment to a homeland for the Jewish people in Palestine. It was created in November 2, 1917. Lord Arthur Balfour, then British Foreign Minister, issued a declaration (the Balfour Declaration). This announced the British Empire’s support for the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine

The British Empire played the major role in the Middle East because during the first World War, in 1916, it convinced Arab leaders to revolt against the Ottoman Empire which was allied with Germany. After the Ottoman Empire was defeated, the British government would support the establishment of an independent Arab state in the region, including Palestine.

One of the main ideas behind the League of Nations created after World War I and later the United Nations created after World War II was to have an international support for people without a homeland. For example, Germany was persecuting the Jewish people because they thought that they were the problem of the economic hardships and the weak link in German society. Military nationalism creates enemies and the Jewish became the easy enemy for Hitler. The sympathy for the Jewish in the Holocaust during World War I was what really pushed Europe to allow the creation of Israel as an independent nation and homeland for the Jews. In the process of creating a Jewish homeland Palestinian refugees were created when they lost their homes to the settlement of the Jewish people. There has always been more sympathy for the Jewish people as victims than for the Arab people because most of the Arabs are Muslim and the historic echoes of the Crusades make western Christians more sympathetic to the Jews. The Western Europeans could have also felt guilty that the Holocaust happened in Europe and they wanted to do something for the Jewish people who survived.
British politicians felt sad because Germany started a holocaust for the Jewish people. They thought if they divided Palestine into two countries and create Israel then there will be a homeland for the Jewish people after the horror of World War. The question remains how this promised homeland of peace which has Jerusalem as a “city of Peace” has been at the center of so much conflict.
Israel achieved independence when the war ended in 1947 , and the British created two states. Golda Meir became the fourth Prime Minister. She helped the independence movement of Israel and guided and rallied the Israeli victory against Arab Palestinians. Also,she attempts peace between Israel and Arab Palestine and became one of the central figures in finding stability.

This is an interesting article, because it explained how Israel became a country. Also, it stated the conflict between Jewish people and Muslims.However, this article showed that if you are not strong enough,then you are going to get bullied. One nation erased another nation from the map. Because the people of Palestine were not strong enough to say you can’t bring other people without my permission. Jewish people control the economy of many countries, because they are strong and they do not give up. Also, this showed political difference between western culture and middle eastern culture.
