When You Should Pray?

Have you ever had those friends who while talking with them get encouraged, challenged, and strengthened? No matter where they are at in their own life, struggling or not, they are so completely in tune with Christ that they always have some kind of wisdom, word of encouragement/affirmation, and challenge for my life.

Anyway, I have a few of those in my life (thank God), and as I talked with one of them last night, my mind and way I live my life got completely blown away. I began to tell her about things going on in my life with my family, work, relationships, etc. Somehow in the conversation, prayer got brought up. I mentioned how interesting it is that prayer is constantly the last thing I think about when events happen in my life, good or bad.

It was kind of funny how as we kept talking random situations in my life, she (and sometimes I) would point out things I could be praying for. I would tell her my concerns about my family and after she listened she would gently ask, “Well have you prayed about it?” Same happened when mentioning a potential future with a guy I liked and how I was needing some wisdom, “That’s something you should totally pray about!” Whatever was brought up she pointed out the fact praying over these areas in my life was crucial. I mean, God already knows the concerns and desires of my heart, but He loves to be able to talk to me about it.

With all that being said, I want to challenge you with a few thoughts/verses.

1 Thessalonians 5:12 says:

“Pray continually.”

And Philippians 4:6 says:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Whatever is going on in your life, wherever you’re at, pray continually about everything and anything.

Need finances? Pray about it!

Need wisdom? Pray about it.

Need strength and courage? Pray about it.

Need help/encouragement to/wisdom when reading God’s Word? Pray about it!

Need Healing? Pray about it.

Something amazing happened in your life? Praise Him! Let Him know.

Life’s going horrible? Thank Him for the blessings you do have instead of focusing on what is wrong.

Need your family to find Jesus? Pray about it!

Need a deeper relationship with Christ? Pray about it.

Whatever is going on in your life, prayer makes such a huge impact! Just think about how many areas and events in our lives could be so much simpler if the first thing we did was take our requests to God.

It reminds me of the song, “What If His People Prayed” by Casting Crowns:

What if the armies of the Lord
Picked up and dusted off their swords
Vowed to set the captives free
And not let Satan have one more

What if the church for heaven’s sake
Finally stepped up to the plate
Took and stand upon God’s promise
And stormed hell’s rusty gates

What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face
And turn from their own way

And what would happen if we prayed
For those raised up to lead the way
Then maybe kids in school could pray
And unborn children see light of day

What if the life that we pursue
Came from a hunger for the truth
What if the family turned to Jesus
Stopped asking Oprah what to do

What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face
And turn from their own way

He said that they would hear
His promise has been made
He’s answered loud and clear, Yeah
If only we would pray

If My people called by My name
If they’ll humble themselves and pray
If My people called by My name
If they’ll humble themselves and pray

What if His people prayed
And those who bear His name
Would humbly seek His face, Yeah
And turn from their own way

He said that they would hear
His promise has been made
He’s answered loud and clear, Yeah
If only we would pray

What if His people prayed

I hope you all have a blessed week.
Remember to pray continually about everything on your heart.
Jesus already knows what we need, but there’s a whole new level of intimacy with Him when we actually ask Him for help or seek His face.

May Christ bless you in everything,
