The highest-charting music label *in Capitol Hill history*

With his Sunday “secret show” at Neumos and a video celebrating Capitol Hill’s vintage style, rapper Macklemore has also given the neighborhood another remarkable note in pop music — the highest-charting music label in Capitol Hill history. The Macklemore and Ryan Lewis team-up album The Heist is #1 on iTunes — and listed under Macklemore, LLC.

Fitting for an album concepted as a reaction to the big money music industry, checks for the independent release’s royalties will be made out to the business registered to a Broadway address and listing Macklemore alter ego Ben Haggerty’s mom and dad’s old house on 11th Ave E. That house sold this summer, by the way, for just short of a million. No word on whether Haggerty still keeps his Eastlake apartment just across the border from Capitol Hill.

We know the sobriety-minded start doesn’t hang out here anymore — Capitol Hill is “full of bars and those bars are full of drugs,” The Seattle Times writes.

It also should be noted that, while the Heist is an indie hip-hop album, it has a fully off-Hill promotional powerhouse behind it in global hype machine, The Agency Group.

The rest of you Capitol Hill record labels who do hang out here can let us know now where you rank.

Such good music. Way to go Macklemore…
Be sure to check out their AMA interview on reddit.
I’m sure it had someone to do with the album getting to #1 so quickly….

Seriously

Is Macklemore actually serious. I thought his “music” was just parody. Do people actually think this is talent? Ugh.

Clearly you haven’t listened to much of his music except maybe thrift shop, and we danced, and his other ‘fun’ songs. Listen to a track like “The Town” or “Wings”. He is dope – he took a while to grow on me, but his music is hella enjoyable.
