AG Al- Rawi continues to use official Ministry accounts to peddle propaganda
Senator Anita Haynes, the Public Relations Officer of the UNC has taken note of a Facebook post on the Office of the Attorney General official page on the vote in the Senate on the Interception of Communications (Amendment) motion.
In statement today Senator Haynes noted:
“The Attorney General cannot help himself and continues to use state resources to share his political agenda. I wish to remind the Attorney General that using official Ministry mediums to push his political narrative is grossly unethical and against every political code of conduct.
Today the official page of the Ministry of the Attorney General posted an inaccurate synopsis of the vote on the Amendments in today’s Senate sitting. (Screenshot attached)
The Attorney General continues to push increasingly draconian laws which directly impacts the lives of the people of Trinidad and Tobago and he has chosen to do so without the backing of the majority of the Parliament. In the post on the Ministry’s facebook stated that the votes against were “the Opposition.”
If the post were an honest reflection of the day’s proceedings without the colour of Al- Rawi’s political bias, it would have noted that only members of the Keith Rowley regime voted for these draconian amendments. Members of the Opposition, as well as, two members of the Independent bench voted against, while others but one abstained.
The office of the Attorney General and its communication channels must be used as a source of official and accurate information and not for PNM propaganda.
The United National Congress remains committed to standing up for the rights of the people of Trinidad and Tobago, and will only support legislation that works in the interest of the people of this country.
This latest action by the Attorney General shows that he did not learn his lesson after having to delete a propaganda post on Cambridge Analytica and his failed attempt to make that lie part of the national conversation. Is it that he is not allowed to share his views on PNM facebook pages so he opts to use our state resources in this reckless manner?
I remind the Attorney General that there are other ways to publicize party propaganda without using state resources that are paid for by all citizens. Members of this Rowley Administration continue to show that they are unable to tell the truth, even on things that are easily disproved with a simple check of the Parliamentary record.
I reiterate the call for the Attorney General to desist immediately from this practice of using public resources for PNM communications in the future. While it is an election year good sense must still prevail.
