The Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino is located in San Juan, Puerto Rico and has been reduced to a SPG Category 3 property meaning free night awards start at 7,000 Starpoints per night, and Cash and Points is available for $55 plus 3,500 points.
Getting to the hotel from San Juan-Luis Muñoz MarÃn International Airport will run you roughly $20 one-way, since Uber is not allowed to pick up at the airport. However, Uber can pick up at the hotel and the ride back is under $10 for UberX.
As a SPG Gold Member, thanks to the status from my American Express Platinum Card, I was upgraded to a deluxe room upon check-in, which means that it offered a nice balcony. The majority of rooms don’t have balconies, though it was nice to receive the upgrade.
In addition, as a cardholder of the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express, I received complimentary access to the Sheraton Club Lounge, a perk of this card. Note, this benefit applies to all stays including award stays as well.

The Sheraton Club Lounge is located on the 12th floor and offers plenty of seating inside as well as an outdoor terrace with seats. The lounge serves breakfast each morning and evening hors d’oeuvres though beer and wine are extra.

Breakfast spread hat fruit, juices, in pastries, eggs and bacon.
Evening spread consisted of chips, salsa, guacamole, salads, and soup.

Bottom Line
Overall the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino was a nice property and I would return here again if in the area. It’s a great value as a Category 3, so I’d recommend using SPG points if staying here, but note the hotel adds on a $15 fee per night. The Club Lounge was also a nice feature the property has.
There is a non-smoking casino in the hotel, though don’t expect anything like Las Vegas, as it only has a handful of tables. One negative while I was here, is that the whirlpool by the pool wasn’t hot. I did inform the hotel so hopefully it’s been resolved.

beach, sand, anything?
It’s across the street from the convention center. No beach, no sand. Kind of a “sketchy” area at night.
Very few restaurants nearby, hotel food pricey. Need a cab to get to Old San Juan. Be aware that the cab drivers will hassle you if you want Uber. There’s a lot of animosity between Uber and local cabs. Also some hotel won’t let Uber pick you up at the main entrance.
It has a bay view of mostly commercial boats. Casino is average.
Nice rooms, nice staff, enjoyed the infinity pool.
If you are going to a convention, fine. If not you are going to put up with people there for conventions that tend to keep the hotel/pool/common areas crowded and noisy.
There is no reason to stay here if you want to experience Puerto Rico cuisine, culture, beaches or Old San Juan.
We’ve been to PR a dozen times, many better choices. The Condado Area, Isla Verde have nice hotels on beach close to airport with great restaurants. About an hour away Fajardo has premium hotels and properties near rain forest (El Conquistador, Wyndham Rio Mar, St. Regis).
